July has been a big deal in terms of new recruits. A grand total of 14 new Tiqeteers joined the ranks at our Amsterdam office – the highest number we’ve ever had at Tiqets since 2014, when the company was founded.

While that does make things a little tight around the lunch table, we’re always up for making room and getting to know new teammates. This month we’re especially happy to welcome five new Customer Service agents, who all have their own story of how they ended up on this side of the planet. Learn more about them here and see if you’d like to join them at Tiqets in the future!

What made you move to Amsterdam?

I grew up in London and, following the Brexit result, it didn’t feel like my home anymore. I also lived in Hamburg for just over a year, but I wanted to try somewhere new/more romantic, but also not be too far from family and friends back home.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Australian mountains over Byron Bay. Think barefoot walks to the farmers’ market. Fresh fruit. No plastic. Being self-sufficient. Surrounded by nature.

What was your favorite holiday experience?

A couple of years ago I visited Cuba.  Before we checked into the hotel for a couple of weeks, we spent a few days living with a Cuban farmer who had fought in the 1960 revolution. Everything we ate was what he had grown himself. The alcohol we drank, he had brewed at home.

What type of music are you into?

I love The Killers, The Vaccines, etc. On the other end of the spectrum, Krishna Das for those yoga-filled days. But a special shoutout goes to one of my favorite bands: Frightened Rabbit. The lead singer, Scott Hutchinson, sadly took his own life very recently. They’re amazing and if you haven’t listened to them yet, you definitely should.

What is your favorite series at the moment?

Black Mirror on Netflix.

What made you move to Amsterdam?

I moved to Amsterdam last November to join my husband, who’s also Brazilian. He’s currently working at Kraft Heinz in Amsterdam.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

It’d probably be in New York City. I loved the variety of cultural attractions and the city atmosphere.

What was your favorite holiday experience?

It was in Greece. I took a week cruise to some Greek islands and had a great time with my family, especially in Mykonos.

What type of music are you into?

I am into rock and Brazilian MPB.

What is your favorite series at the moment?

House of Cards and Homeland.

What made you move to Amsterdam?

I was born and raised in San Diego, California, learning Dutch from my mother and traveling to Holland every summer. Those annual trips began to show me what an amazing country the Netherlands is – and in high school I became obsessed with the idea of moving to Amsterdam for my studies. Every time I walked, biked or floated along the Amsterdam canals, I knew this was the place for me.

In 2015 I moved from sunny Southern California to a mostly wet Amsterdam. Best decision I’ve ever made. I’m now in my final year of European Studies and am excited to continue with a Masters in International Relations.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Right here in Amsterdam! It’s such an awesome, diverse, international, and evolving city. I think living in a city like this with more than 150 different nationalities gives you the chance to hear and understand different perspectives, helping to create a more innovative and progressive society.

What was your favorite holiday experience?

Now that I’m living in Europe, what better vacation spot could I find than my hometown! Sun, endless beaches and refills in restaurants are just a few of the reasons why I like to return at least once a year. This past June I visited Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs, so if I seem suspiciously tanned, you now know why ;).

What type of music are you into?

Hands down my favorite band has got to be The Doors. I also enjoy Pink Floyd, Keane, Arctic Monkeys, and Two Door Cinema Club. And while most Dutch people aren’t too proud of their country’s musical talents, Blof and Marco Borsato are great when you’re homesick from halfway across the world. Not to mention that my American friends could sing along to Lil Kleine and Ronnie Flex’s well-known hit…

What is your favorite series at the moment?

It’s too difficult to choose one, so here are my top five: Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Westworld, Narcos, and Parks and Recreation.

What made you move to Amsterdam?

The Netherlands is one of the few countries where you can find a job with a good level of English. I lived in the UK from 2005 to 2009 but, after Brexit, it didn’t feel like a good option, so Amsterdam was the most obvious choice. In fact, I almost moved here in 2005, when I was struggling to find a job in London, but then I got called to work at SEGA Europe and ended up staying there.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I’m actually where I want to be right now. There’s nothing like starting your life over at the ripe age of 42, after living the American Screenwriting Dream for 9 years. The Netherlands is a breath of fresh air after coming from the US, a country that means so much to me, but is in a state of complete disarray.

What was your favorite holiday experience?

Last August I was able to go back to Japan. My first trip there was ten years ago. I loved it and it was great for my husband to experience Japanese culture. It took me three months of research to figure out how to get out of Shinjuku station in Tokyo and back to our Airbnb without getting lost!

What type of music are you into?

Mostly old stuff: rock, jazz, industrial… Every time I listen to chart music, it feels like that South Park episode where everything sounded like garbage. I still love Nine Inch Nails, though!

What is your favorite series at the moment?

The Handmaid’s Tale. The season finale is actually tomorrow!

What made you move to Amsterdam?

I decided to move to the Netherlands because my boyfriend is from Amsterdam. I used to visit him and loved it here – everything felt so comfortable and happy. I started getting curious about what it’d be like to live here and to learn more about the culture. So, after a lot of thought, I decided to make the big move and start a life here with him.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

If I could live in another place, it’d probably be somewhere in the Caribbean. Last year I visited some countries there and loved it. Everything was amazing: the culture, food and, of course, the great sunshine! It’d also be very easy for me to live there because in most countries they either speak Spanish or English.

What was your favorite holiday experience?

My favorite holiday experience was when I traveled to Portugal and Spain with my boyfriend. The trip took three weeks. We covered A LOT of cities and it was a very enriching experience.

What type of music are you into?

I like to listen to different kinds of music, but rock is definitely my favorite. One of my favorite bands is Maná, a rock group from Mexico.

What is your favorite series at the moment?

Most of my favorites are Mexican shows or Netflix originals. The last show I watched was a Spanish one called Casa de Papel, which I really recommend.
